Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! This classic line from Wizard of Oz hardly seems scary in this day and age. WebMD featured an article listing “13 Things That Scare the Pants Off You.”
- Roller Coasters
- Horror Movies
- Sudden Loud Noises
While my list topping fear (don’t judge, but those creepy crawlies that live underground, whose name rhymes with “firm”) didn’t make the list, these are worthy contenders. I’m sure you can relate to at least one of them.
Fear is a funny thing, in that it is highly skilled at keeping you from doing certain things. Whether that’s good or bad depends on the person and the circumstances.
However in my line of work, I’ve found that fear can be highly effective at keeping people stuck in their financial circumstances. As I work with clients, I hear all sorts of things. If I had to categorize them, these would be the most common:
- Fear of being vulnerable and honest about their financial state.
- Fear of being judged for their financial mistakes.
- Fear that the process to solve the problem will be too overwhelming.
The truth is, albeit cliché, the way to overcome fear is to face it. One thing that you can guarantee is that your financial circumstances will not change for the better if you allow fear to keep you from acting. In fact, failure to act is more likely to cause circumstances to worsen.
In response to fear, I take clients through a journey of discovery. It’s a simple approach to identify the “why” behind the fear, so that we can overcome it with truth. Using the above as an example, we come up with the following:
Fear of vulnerability and honesty: You must first acknowledge that a problem exists in order to have any success at fixing it.
Fear of being judged for mistakes: A quick Google search will show that you are not alone. Tons of others have made similar mistakes. The best part is that all challenges can be overcome with the right approach.
Fear of being overwhelmed: Anything worth having requires a bit of work. With the right support, you can navigate out of even the most complex financial situations.
This is where having a trained professional in your corner, helping you along the way provides the most benefit. You don’t have to overcome your financial fears alone. To learn more about how you can kick fear to the curb, and transform your finances, click the link below.
